Amber Heard’s Lawyer Says Actress ‘Absolutely’ Can’t Pay $8m Damages And Plans To Appeal

“It’s a setback, a significant setback because that’s exactly what it means.”

Amber Heard lost her case and was sentenced to paying her ex-husband Johnny Depp $10 million in compensation. However, her lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, revealed that the actress cannot afford the amount demanded and might have to declare bankruptcy.

The lawyer had been invited to Today Show for an interview where she shared her thoughts after losing the case.

The lawyer was then asked whether she would be able to pay off the total of $8.35 million, which already included the $2 million she received from Depp per the jury’s decision. She answered, “No, absolutely not.”

She added that Heard has “excellent grounds” to appeal and plans to do so.

She’s also expressed distaste over what seemed to be social media’s criticism of Heard secretly taping and recording her ex-husband’s actions. She said, “It’s a horrible message. It’s a setback, a significant setback because that’s exactly what it means.”

“Unless you pull out your phone and you video your spouse or your significant other beating you, effectively, you won’t be believed.”

Bredehoft has also blamed social media influence on the jury, who may have heard from their family members or friends.

“There’s no way they couldn’t have been influenced. It was horrible. It was really, really lop-sided,” she spoke. “It’s like the Roman coliseum, how they viewed this whole case.”

She continued, “We had an enormous amount of evidence suppressed in this case that was in the UK case. In the UK case, when it came in, Amber won, Mr. Depp lost.”

Bredehoft had insisted Heard was “demonized” and continued, “A number of things were allowed in this court that should not have been allowed, and it caused the jury to be confused.”

It was worth noting that Heard’s lawyers had also presented a series of article headlines during the heat of the UK libel case as evidence.

She then recalled Heard’s words after losing, “One of the first things she said is, I am so sorry to all those women out there. This is a setback. For all women in and outside the courtroom. And she feels — she feels the burden of that.”
