Alec Baldwin Will Be Charged For Shooting Halyna Hutchins Dead On ‘Rust’ Set
It was a “terrible miscarriage of justice.”
Actor Alec Baldwin will be charged with involuntary manslaughter for accidentally killing Halyna Hutchins on the set of “Rust.” The 64-year-old pointed his gun at the camera for a shooting scene, but had instead unloaded the gun at the cinematographer and injured the director, Joel Souza.
He will be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter along with the armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed. None are made for injuring the director, Joel Souza.
Additionally, David Halls has signed the plea for negligent use of a deadly weapon.
Lawyer Mary Carmack-Altwies said, “After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the “Rust” film crew.”
“On my watch, no-one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice.”
Meanwhile, Baldwin’s lawyer described the charge as a “terrible miscarriage of justice.” Baldwin claimed that he didn’t press the trigger but it went off anyway, but the Hutchins’ family filed the lawsuit and said that they “cut corners.”
They also blamed the armorer as “wholly unqualified.” They added that Baldwin had also refused to take the training needed for the move he will be doing at Bonanza Creek Ranch.
Her husband, Matthew, however, has reached an agreement with the man, and filming is planned to continue this year.
Matthew will be an executive producer which means he’ll earn profits from the movie. He shared, “We have reached a settlement, subject to court approval, for our wrongful death case against the producers of “Rust,” including Alec Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions, LLC. As part of that settlement, our case will be dismissed.”
“The filming of “Rust,” which I will now executive produce, will resume with all the original principal players on board in January 2023.”
“I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame. All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident.”
“I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.”
Baldwin, who’s been sharing the despair and horror after the incident, will still be charged with involuntary manslaughter.
“Throughout this difficult process, everyone has maintained the specific desire to do what is best for Halyna’s son. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation.”
