Actress Brigitte Nielsen Gave Birth At 54 – She Says Late Motherhood Should Be Normalized

What do you think of late motherhood?

To live a happy life, it’s best to listen to your heart and not to what people say. Brigitte Nielsen has adopted following her heart to live a life based on personal convictions and not by the standards society imposes. For one, the singer believes motherhood should be about love, not age.

The actress shared an inspiring story about being a mom again at 54 and urged that society normalize late motherhood.

Brigitte explained that her journey to motherhood was such a long road, but she and her husband, Mattia Dessi – an Italian model, didn’t give up despite all the hardships, as they were strongly determined to start a family together. And after over 10 long years of undergoing in vitro fertilization treatments, the model finally got pregnant at 54.

In June 2018, the Danish star gave birth to her long-awaited daughter and revealed that baby Frida brought her and her husband even closer to each other and that the first-time dad is a natural.

The couple, who had been married for 12 years at this point was reportedly over the moon with happiness. Becoming a mom at 54 is somewhat shocking, and Brigitte noted that men don’t receive the same criticism when they become dads later in life. Sharing her experience, the model says that when people say, ‘You were 54,’ she replies‘Yeah, well, what about all the men who are in their 60s, 70s, and 80s.”

Brigitte added: “Some women think, ‘Oh my God, I’m too old.’ Well, yeah, I can understand people saying, ‘How dare she?” “But how many men have their first kids in their 60s and 70s, and they never doubt it?”

She continued: “I got a lot of letters and emails from women who are so excited that I’ve given them the courage.” The actress will soon turn 60 and says she’s living her best life now being a mom to her 4-year-old and that staying healthy has become a passion of hers. She opened up that her initial fears of feeling exhausted by motherhood at a mature age have disappeared.

Brigitte further insisted that baby Frida gives her much energy, adding: “Since she was born, I wake up excited every day.”

She told Brightside that when men ask her why she doesn’t look tired while taking care of her toddler, she often replies with: “I’m a woman. We mothers are strong.” Finally, the Danish beauty explained she found the experience of being a mom more pleasant in her 50s than it was in her 20s. “I was 20 years old when I had my first baby, and I was so green, so concerned, so scared. Now, I’m just excited. Now, I can enjoy myself.”

However, the multi-talented beauty, who already has four grown sons, has had quite a busy love life and has tied the knot 5 times.

Brigitte’s first marriage was at age 20 to a Danish composer. The relationship lasted one year, and their son, who is now 37, was mostly raised by his dad. At age 22, she walked the aisle with Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone, who was nearly twice her age.

The actress revealed she suffered from facing assumptions that she married him for money. She told Womenworking“They didn’t understand that he begged me to marry him.” He begged me! Sadly, the pair called it quits two years later, and Brigitte reportedly stayed single for 5 years.

In 1990, she met her third husband. But it only lasted for 2 years. The couple didn’t have any children, but right before they tied the knot, Brigitte gave birth to a son with her ex-fiancé. The child is now 33.

Dessi was 24 at the time, yet their 15-year age gap couldn’t stand in the way of their attraction. It was love at first sight, and Brigitte explained“Mattia walked in, and I literally fell off my chair.” The model didn’t just sweep her off her feet, he also saved her, admitting that, prior to meeting him, her life was rock and roll.

Dessi confessed he adored her, and to preserve their love, Brigitte had to straighten up her act and lead a healthy lifestyle just like him.

She had asserted: “I’m literally a different person, and that has a lot to do with my husband.” Notably, the couple tied the knot in 2006 and, at the time, wanted more than anything to build a family. But Brigitte faced serious challenges. In fact, soon after meeting with Dessi, she started planning for their future by freezing her eggs, and, doctors gave her only a minuscule 3 to 4% chance of conceiving.

All in all, they have a daughter and couldn’t be happier.
