Joaquin Phoenix Walked Out Of Interview When Asked If ‘Joker’ Inspires Violence

Does it? Can it? Will it?

‘Joker’ is not a story that ends well, we all knew that because Arthur Fleck did not have the kind of support protagonists usually have. Yet, with the notion that movies always have moral lessons to teach, will ‘Joker’ become an example of a bad one?

Such was the question Joaquin Phoenix was faced with when he was interviewed ‘The Telegraph’. Robbie Collin, a UK journalist, asked him a question: “Aren’t you worried that this film might perversely end up inspiring exactly the kind of people it’s about, with potentially tragic results?”

It threw the 44-year-old actor off, as he stuttered in his words and walked out, “‘Why would you…? No… no.'”

Phoenix eventually returns to the interview, but that was after he spoke over an hour with the publicist of Warner Bros. He wanted “to get things back on track.” He also genuinely explains that he has never thought of the implication before.

Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ is slated for release on Oct. 4, garnering attention from fans as the most feared criminal of Gotham City will finally have his story told. Check out the trailer below:

When people wonder if the movie will inspire violence, people have forgotten that the story of a fictional character is always inspired by the reality around us – by the rejection and violence that is the real world. No man is born evil, Todd Phillips is taking the villain into the spotlight to show a villain in the making.
