Netflix Giving Out $100m Relief Fund To Creative Workers Impacted By Covid-19 Lockdown

Production all across the globe has been stopped due to fear of the pandemic. White-collar workers are protected by company regulations, but creative workers who depend on gigs are currently left with no paycheck to look forward at least until things calm down.

Netflix has prepared $100m to be given to people whose jobs were jeopardized by the natural disaster, mainly to the workers of their products such as ‘The Witcher 2’ production that was stopped when actor Kristofer Hivju confirms that he’s positive with Covid-19.

“Almost all television and film production has now ceased globally – leaving hundreds of thousands of crew and cast without jobs,” chief content officer of Netflix Ted Sarandos said.

“These include electricians, carpenters, and drivers, many of whom are paid hourly wages and work on a project-to-project basis. This community has supported Netflix through the good times, and we want to help them through these hard times, especially while governments are still figuring out what economic support they will provide.”

The estimation is that a staggering number of workers have been left jobless with the pandemic. In the US alone, the number is predicted to reach 120,000 in the film industry. Netflix is also offering $15m to non-profit organizations that are helping to provide relief to people who suddenly lost their job when productions were cancelled in their prospective country.
