Anthony Mackie Confirms He’s Taking Over The Captain America Role Officially
He’s also the first black man to get this role.
Marvel had recently released a trailer, teasing the expanding universe of Marvel. In the trailer, Anthony Mackie was seen pulling Captain America’s shield off the bark of a tree and then throwing it cap-style. Disney has long mentioned that The Falcon and Winter Soldier will return for a series.
But finally, Anthony Mackie can drop the word official – the series is very much happening this August and can be streamed on Disney+. The 41-year-old will be back to reprise the same role as The Falcon, but he has also been nominated the title Captain America after Steve Rogers personally requested him to.
Mackie reveals in his interview with Shadow and Act, “With the idea of being a black man and becoming Captain America, it’s been a daunting task because I think, at this day and age in America, I think we are open-minded to the idea of having my face represent us, as a country.”
“And my race represents us as a country because we’re truly a melting pot. So there is no distinctive look or feel or design of an American. We’re all Americans… To be Captain America, I want my Captain America to represent everybody, not just a specific group of people.”
Sebastian Stan will also return to reprise his role as the Winter Soldier or Bucky Barnes. Currently, Mackie is starring in a Netflix series titled ‘Altered Carbon’ and aside from this duo, WandaVision has also recently wrapped up their production and is set to premiere by the end of this year. All these miniseries will be both prequels and sequels, building up towards the new phase of Marvel Universe.
