“Good things will happen.”
It was a beautiful night, one big win for Brendan Fraser, recognition for his hard work, talent, and just compassion toward those around him. The man won Best Actor for his work in ‘The Whale’ at Critics’ Choice Awards, prompting a lot of tearful smiles, standing ovations, and choking voices from the actor himself.
He starred in finally, his first lead role in a major film, a tear-jerking family drama.
For the past few years, he’s been embroiled in controversies as a victim of the former HFPA President. And while giving his speech, he decided to make it a moment to show compassion and encourage others. He spoke, “If you, a guy like Charlie who I played in this movie.”
“If you struggle with obesity or you feel like you are in a dark sea, I want you to know that if you can have the strength to just get to your feet and go to the light, good things will happen. Thank you. Good night.”
Actor Austin Butler who played Elvis and won the Golden Globes award last week watched with a smile as Brendan gave his speech.
Brendan’s character, Charlie, was a man suffering from morbid obesity and trying to get back to his estranged daughter.
He started his speech with a quote, “Thank you. Thank you for this honor, Critics Choice Association. Thank you. It was Herman Melville who once wrote that there are only five critics in America. The rest are asleep. I don’t know what it means either. But I’m sure glad that you woke up for me. Where were you?”
He also mentioned and thanked Darren Aronofsky, the acclaimed Director of the movie, “I was in the wilderness. I probably should have left a trail of breadcrumbs. But you found me. And like all best directors, you merely just showed me where to go to get to where I needed to be.”
Fellow stars were cheering on him, giving him ovations and encouragement, a warm welcome to the film industry after over a decade of struggles.
He truly earned the award with his incredible acting and the audience couldn’t stop the standing ovation.
“Everything Everywhere All at Once” was dominating the categories, winning Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and notably, Best Supporting Actor by Ke Huy Quan.
