Julie Burchill Says Kim Kardashian Is A ‘Better Role Model Than Marilyn Monroe’ Because She Refused To Be Shamed For Her S*X Tape
Monroe accepted being objected by men, says the writer.
Julie Burchill has dubbed Kim Kardashian a better role model than Marilyn Monroe. This comparison emerged after the 41-Year-Old wore a famous crystal-studded gown, famously donned by Monroe as she sang Happy Birthday, Mr. President to JFK in 1962 to the Met Gala in May.
Discussing the pair in an article for The Spector, Burchill says both were shamed for their nakedness, but the tough one toughed it out, describing Kim.
As the British writer note, she dislikes the concept of role models; she insists women should be tough, not tender to succeed in a man’s world. Burchill claimed Monroe, who is alleged by her maid Lena Pepitone to have agreed that being an actress is no better than being a hooker, had accepted being objectified by men, which had a disastrous effect, killing her at 36.
By contrast, according to Burchill, Kim’s leaked s*x tape in 2017 led to a thriving career, thanks to her owning it rather than accepting the shaming.
For Monroe, she had been found dead at her home in Brentwood, California, after taking an overdose of barbiturates. “At this age, Kardashian was just getting started on her political activism, ranging from everything from publicizing the American genocide by Turkey and working for the release of non-violent drug offenders. The sneering query, “But what does Kim Kardashian do? Is easily answered,” Burchill wrote.
She added: “She raises four children, overseas a billion-dollar empire, and gets under-privileged, non-violent people left rotting in jail out – what do you do?”
Just as she sported the sparkling dress, Kim faced criticism, with some experts saying the iconic dress shouldn’t have been taken out of storage at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Scott Fortner, a fashion historian and costume expert, recently accused the mom-of-four of damaging the dress and told New York Post last month: “No one should have reworn this dress. It’s hard because [Kardashian] is one of the most influential people in the world.”
Scott continued: “If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have allowed it simply because of the importance of the piece in American cultural history. But let me be clear, this is nothing to do with Kim Kardashian.
However, Kim is the first person to wear the gown since Monroe wore it. She had told Vogue she lost 16 pounds in three weeks to fit into the dress, but she was still unable to zip it. She had expressed how extremely respectful she was to the dress and what it meant to American history, adding that it will forever be one of her greatest privileges to channel her inner Marilyn on such a special night.
