One of the best relaxing activities you should resort to when you’re stressed out is cleaning. I know, I know. House cleaning has been the source of stress for many people because looking at the kids won’t stop taking out their toys! But the feeling of watching things line up neatly after the place looked like a complete mess is very satisfying, don’t you think?
These people show just how nice it is when you really get up and get things done. It can be anywhere from 30 minutes of decluttering to 3 hours of scrubbing, but the results are just too neat and smooth to not share!
The reason that you’re not cleaning your home is not necessarily because you’re lazy. Anxiety and depressions can be the reasons why. Maggie Vaughan, a psychotherapist from New York, explained, “People are feeling increasingly overwhelmed and powerless in the face of COVID-19. The uncertainty about where the situation’s headed is intolerable for us.”
“Barkeeper’s Friend for the rest of my Revere Ware. Not perfect but still a huge difference.”
But cleaning can also be your cure. In fact, there’s a scientific reason why cleaning can be healing for the soul. Jaime Zuckerman, who has a clinical license in psychology, said, “When we seek out ways to reduce feelings of helplessness, cleaning is one of the ways we might decide to do that.”
When we clean, things fall into place. They are within reach and to our knowledge. Spaces become decluttered. The act of repeating the same action calms the mind, such as sweeping and scrubbing.
Keeping things neat and in line can also be our subconscious trying to anticipate things. Human nature demands so that they can minimize unexpected situations as much as possible. Evolutionary anthropologist Martin Lang explains that humans have that impulse which ‘pushes us to take precautions and try to control our environment so there is nothing surprising that could potentially harm us.’
“Citrus cleaner, cloths, scrubber, water vacuum, and hot water will get the job done.”
