Woman Who Marries Her Step-brother Says Her Mom Insisted Her To ‘Follow Her Heart’

“It felt good and natural immediately.”

Matilda Eriksson never thought she’d ever get married until she met her husband. Now 23, she kisses Samuli, 27, and would often surprise people when she tells them he’s also her stepbrother.

Finnish newlywed couple, Matilda Eriksson and Samuli became an internet sensation when she shared her first meeting with her husband and stepbrother on TikTok.

Matilda, who’s from Espoo, shared on the clip that she first met her husband as a potential stepsibling while her mother was dating. Her mother tied the knot with Samuli’s dad in 2019 and the two hit it up very well that they became close friends soon. But things didn’t really get heated until the day their mom celebrated her 50th birthday.

She recalled the kiss Samuli went for and she kissed him back. But the two shy lovebirds didn’t go official until weeks later.

“I responded right away with passion. It took us two weeks to start dating after that and he basically moved in with me right away. It felt good and natural immediately.”

But after their brief time as siblings, Matilda shared that she felt rather conflicted and could feel people giving snide remarks about them. She shared, “Some of our friends were first a bit doubtful and [were] kind of judging.”

“I think it was because of the confusion that someone I had been calling step-brother has to now be called my boyfriend.”

She went to her mom for advice, who only had support for her. Matilda fondly recalled her mom telling her to “follow her heart” and not give heed to what people were saying. She wanted her to find in herself “what felt right in the moment.”

The couple did their research to learn if it’s legal to be married with their status. And thanks to a friend’s help in the law field, they proceeded with engagement in October 2021.

The couple was officially married in March this year. And with that, everything just fell into place for the couple who found their friends now completely supportive of them and dubbed them a “match made in heaven.”

There were people who were very reserved when Matilda shared the story on TikTok and called them “weird” and deserving of “jail.” But others pointed out that “they aren’t even related” and reminded that Cher and Josh from “Clueless” were also stepsiblings.
