Woman Shares Why She’s Banning Kids From Her Reception And It Sparks Debate
“Hey, we love kids, but this is an adult-only affair.”
Who would’ve known that people have such strong opinions when it comes to letting the kids attend the wedding or not? Lauren Ladouceur, a New York-based content creator, went viral last month sharing about her wedding rules that include children-free reception.
Months ahead, she’s sent out her invitations and detailed the boundaries and expectations she and her fiance have set.
Her TikTok video had unexpectedly gone viral as a lot of people had different strong opinions regarding children.
She began introducing the site, “We have an FAQ section on our website which is where we are kind of addressing all of these miscellaneous questions.”
Then scrolling down to the main question, she explained, “We said, ‘Hey, we love kids, but this is an adult-only affair.'”
The only child that is going to be there was the ringbearer. But said child won’t be staying for the reception as she continued, “He is going to be picked up by someone before it is time for the reception.”
Many people agreed and even shared their own ways of explaining it, ranging from being direct, to “We want to invite you to a free date night on us. Grab a sitter …”
There are those who appear to think that children are the core of the parties and attribute cultural differences to it.
However, it has come to Lauren’s attention that people are so divided and saw some asking if she’s “paying for babysitters for the kids, too.”
Long story short: no. Lauren and her fiance are making it their day, not other family’s.
In a later video explaining her stance, she said, “A wedding is two individuals coming together to create their own family. And you have to respect their boundaries and expectations surrounding their wedding.”
The couple has kept it small with only 65 guests, all of whom were “incredibly understanding.”
