Woman Buys Husband A Fun DNA Test Kit For His Birthday And Find Out He Is Her First Cousin
They both need therapy!
As DNA tests and ancestry sites become greatly famous, people are actually using them to find out different kinds of things about their family tree. At times they can connect long-lost relatives who wouldn’t have ever known the existence of the other.
Whereas in some other cases, they can make people know what kind of illness or situations they might be subject to. But a lady lately learned a bit more than she asked for when she got her result back – and found out that she and her husband are first cousins.
The wife planned to get the DNA testing kit for a bit of fun on her husband’s birthday but wasn’t expecting the results to be earth – shattering. In the later sent to Slate’s Dear Pudence Podcast, the anonymous wife said she and her husband grew up in the small town and have a 2- year- old son together.
“For a birthday present, I got both of us an ancestry kit.‘I wish to God I never came up with the idea.’ The woman explained. When the pair found out that they were closely related, it nearly broke her husband’s heart.
‘This news disturbs me and has left my husband’s world in ruins. His parents has been married for 30 years and my husband always held his mother close to sainthood.’ She added.
But the writer said that she’s still a little confused about how exactly the two are related. Realizing that the whole evidence points at her mother-in-law having an affair with one of her uncles, she wracked her brain for who exactly it could be.
‘All my uncles are happily married — I thought, “ she wrote. I see myself glancing through the photo albums of our childhood together and trying to figure out the truth. This secret is poisoning my marriage, and I am terrified it will blow up the rest of our family. My father inlaw rhapsodize how he married the first girl he ever kissed, this is going to kill him.’
Podcast host Daniel Mallory Ortberg and his guest host, felt strongly that the woman needed to get her husband on the same page as her before moving forward.
“You are cousins. You are not siblings. you didn’t grow up thinking of yourself related. There are many places around the world where people marry their cousins and it’s not seen as a strange thing unless your husband simply can’t live with this, I don’t see the upside in blowing up this marriage, potentially, 30 years later.’ He revealed.
In the end, it’s suggested the pair goes for couple’s therapy, adding that if her husband isn’t willing to go, the woman should go alone while figuring out how to handle the situation.
