Viewers Praise ‘Genius’ Casting In Netflix’s New Top TV Series

Tim Burton’s new TV series Wednesday has only been on Netflix for six days and so far, viewers have been left seriously impressed with one of the castings. On Rotten Tomatoes, people are giving the series a score of over 80%, making it the highest-rated Addams Family property.

Critics haven’t exactly been as effusive in their praise of the show, but they seem to be happy with the casting decisions. 

The titular goth Wednesday Addams is played by Jenna Ortega. And there are also star turns from Luis Guzman as father Gomez Addams and Catherine Zeta-Jones as mother Morticia. There’s a little turn for Christina Ricci, who popularly played Wednesday in the 1990s Addams Family film series. 

The seasoned Addams Family sees a Saturday Night Live star, playing the role of the bald, weird Uncle Fester. 

Fred Armisen is the new Uncle Fester and this casting has delighted many viewers. In case you’re wondering about the little twist in Christina’s role, she shows up as one of Wednesday’s school teachers. With Armisen’s casting, people have called the move genius, with one writing: “I loved Wednesday but I feel like not enough people are talking about how great Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester was.” 

In the 90s when the Addams Family and Addams Family Values were released, Uncle Fester was played by Christopher Lloyd, the back to the Future star.

But it seems as if most would agree that Armisen will fill up Lloyd’s space admirably. Someone else commented: “Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester in Wednesday makes perfect sense.” Another tweeted: “Ok, I know I said Luis Guzman was perfect as Gomez but I can’t believe no one has mentioned Fred Armisen as Fester.” A third wrote on the whole casting: “I have no complaints on casting.”

The comment went: “I think Jenna Ortega did an amazing job as Wednesday. Morticia and Gomez were also well cast and portrayed (mostly). Fred Armisen [pictured] as Uncle Fester was genius, I loved him.”

As expected, not all the critics have been as impressed as the audiences have. A review in The Independent states: “For a show about vampires and werewolves, it has a very little bite.” However, Wednesday in the TV series masters her psychic abilities thwarts a killing speed and solves the mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago. Fair to say, she has a pretty full schedule.
