A video of a little black girl dubbing herself ugly while also bursting into tears when she’s told she’s beautiful has broken the heart of millions of internet users.
Ariyonna, 4, was getting her done by Shabria, an Atlanta-based hairstylist when she was filmed on Shabria’s phone, saying it’s a fact ‘I’m so ugly.’ Devastated and appalled, Shabria instantly told Ariyonna her deduction wasn’t true and that she’s actually very beautiful.

Shabria recorded Instagram Live while making Ariyonna’s hair. In the video, she appeared to be rounding up when Ariyonna looked over at Shabria’s phone and caught sight of what she appeared like on camera.
‘I am so ugly.’ Ariyonna says in the Instagram clip.

‘Don’t say that again. Don’t say that. You are very pretty. When you look at yourself, you are supposed to say, I am a pretty girl. You are so pretty. Do you hear me?’ Devastated Shabria told little Ariyonna.
Titling Ariyonna’s face towards her, the Atlanta-based hairstylist added: ‘You have the prettiest dimples ever. You are just too cute.’

At that point, Ariyonna’s face crumples and quickly resulted in tears. Within split seconds, floodgates opened as she was seen sobbing in Shabria’s arm.
Shabria was obviously heartbroken, telling Ariyonna she’s going to make her cry, while also insisting she’s not ugly. Shabria continued to motive her, telling her things she never seems to have heard.

Shabria also firmly told Ariyonna she needs to walk into the class the next day filled with confidence with how great she looks. ‘You are going to grow up and you are going to be everything you can be.’ Shabria said.

A lot of internet users pointed out that Ariyonna’s feelings about her appearance likely came as a result of herself not seeing herself being represented in pop culture, magazines, and TV.
