This Man Volunteers And Naps With Cats At A Shelter Every Day And People Love It
Terry has the dream job we all want.
It all began with a simple act of love for cats for Terry. When most people are satisfied with watching cat videos and adopting one, 75-year-old Terry spends every afternoon volunteers for a cat sanctuary. Yeah, the willing volunteer Terry comes every day to brush the cats.
He just came in one day and became part of the family since then!
The sanctuary Terry visit is located in Green Bay, Wisconsin. On average, he spends 3 hours a day there, grooming, petting, and napping with the cats. Founder Elizabeth Feldhause recalls while speaking to HuffPost, “He just walked in and started brushing.”
“So eventually we told him he was an official volunteer and had him fill out our volunteer form.”
They added, “Many of our babies come from animal cruelty cases, and neglect situations. Connection like this are so special for them. Their humans – like Terry – make a world of difference.”
The post went viral, receiving more than 107k reactions, and was shared more than 28k times. There was an outpouring of love and people adoring how lovely Terry is with the cats. One commented, “Being a volunteer isn’t always about being super busy. Sometimes, it’s just being there and caring unconditionally.”
Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary Inc. shared this story which quickly became viral.
Terry’s story was so popular; the sanctuary was receiving way more donations than usual. The organization operates solely on donations, and they managed to raise more than $30,000 just within that week.
People were commenting how Terry is making the lives of the cats so different in his own way. “Even in the best shelters I’ve been to, I’ve never ever seen a cat that felt safe and secure enough in a shelter to sleep-cuddle like this,” wrote one person.
“As a cat lover, my heart is very happy; as a mental health professional who’s worked with a lot of stressed and traumatized humans, I think Terry is giving these fur babies a tremendous gift.”
The donations will be directed to improve the facilities with the rest going into savings for ‘rainy day fund.’
