Lionel Messi & Antonela Rocuzzo’s Love Story Proves You Can Love One Person Your Whole Lifetime
They’ve been in love for what seems like an eternity, and their marriage is flourishing.
It sounds like a story straight out of a fairytale! The pair have been together, in love, for most of their lives and have faced pain and tragedy only to come out stronger. Now, if Lionel Messi faces difficulties and fails, it’s guaranteed Antonela Rocuzzo will always be there to lend him a hand and her heart to support him through. Messi will also do the same.
It all started in their early childhood, at a time when Messi’s dream was to become a soccer player.
The sacred dream isn’t so vividly discussed in interviews, but his love life has gained quite a bit of weight in headlines. The now famous professional football player, made the first move, taking out a piece of paper and a pen to write: “Antonela.” “One day we will get engaged.” This was the beginning of their love story worth making into a movie.
Notably, the pair’s love was born at the home of Messi’s friend, Lucas Scagilia.
When they met for the first time, Brightside reported that Messi was playing Sony games at Scagilia’s home. Antonela, then 8 years old, was present, and she had approached them to ask if they needed anything, but young Messi, who was then 9 years old, was just too shy to say anything. He allegedly couldn’t take his gaze away from Antonela after that.
Messi was born in 1987 in Rosario, Argentina while the love of his life, was born a year later in 1988.
Upon meeting at Scagilia’s home, they became friends, but even at that time, Messi allegedly knew he wanted to be with Antonela forever. At age 11, Barcelona entered Messi’s life, he went to Spain in 2000 and life separated the two lovebirds. The pair tried to stay in touch, but at the time, there weren’t as many messaging platforms, hence their communication wasn’t smooth and they started losing sight.
The love lived only in their minds, but soon a sudden tragedy brought them back together.
Antonela lost her best friend in a traffic accident in 2005. She was 17 at the time and was devasted. The now mom-of-three didn’t attend school for several days and was depressed. Messi heard the heartbreaking news and instantly rushed to Argentina to be by Antonela’s side. It was at this point that their affair got a second chance, but they didn’t disclose it.
The first time the world knew of the romance was during Messi’s interview with PEOPLE In January 2009.
So far, the couple has welcomed three sons: Ciro, Mateo, and Thiago.
To celebrate Antonela’s first pregnancy, Messi reportedly put a ball under his shirt after scoring in Argentina’s 4-0 win against Ecuador on June 2, 2012. The year 2017, specifically June 30th, saw the pair get married at a luxury hotel called Hotel City Center in Rosario.
In October 2017, Antonela announced they were expecting their third child.
They are a truly inspirational example of what pure and never-ending love looks like. Some celebrity relationships can’t withstand the test of time and fame. A few have fallen apart shortly after they started and even resulted in scandals, mutual accusations, and trials.
