Teacher, 26, Married Her Student She Had S_e_x With As The Charges Dropped

Prosecutors have officially dropped charges against Baylee A. Turner after she married and gave birth to a child for the student she was accused of having s*x with. In February 2019, Turner, then 23, was charged with having sexual contact with one of her male students following an investigation by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department.

The Joplin Globe had reported that the now-former Sarcoxie High School Teacher was a first-year English teacher when she was accused of being intimate with the student, aged 18, leading to her resignation. Both Turner and the student acknowledged they had s*x the week of Jan 14-21 at Turner’s home, about 260miles Southwest of St. Louis.

However, Turner has officially gotten married to the student and they have welcomed their child together.

According to Facebook, Turner and the student are now officially married. This occurred in May 2019, months after the scandal, and then welcomed their first child together in February 2020. Turner’s student turned husband is now 22-Year-Old while she has turned 26. An assistant prosecutor Nate Dally reportedly claimed the charges were dismissed after she married the student.

The incident had happened when Turner was in her first year of teaching English at Sarcoxie High School.

When the situation got widespread, Turner without holding back surrendered her state teaching license.

Dally explained because the former student now has marital or spousal privilege, he can no longer be compelled to testify against his wife, weakening the state’s case in court. The Missouri state law prohibits school employees, volunteers, and officials from having sexual contact with a student regardless of consent or age. Turner was facing up to 4years in prison as the court had ordered her not to have contact with anyone younger than 16 when she was released after posting a $10K bond. 

Nate Dally, an assistant Jasper County prosecutor, said the charge was dismissed because the marriage means the former student can no longer be compelled to testify.

The former student now has marital or spousal privilege, he can no longer be compelled to testify against his wife.

Dally shared Turner has surrendered her state teaching license, one of the prosecutors’ primary goals. However, the Globe reported Turner was one of six young educators in the state that have been accused of having s*x with students in recent years. This case echoes the tale of the infamous relationship between Washington State teacher Mary Kay Letourneau and 6th-grade student Vili Fualaau.
