Taiki Waititi Has Spoken Up: He’s Back To Direct Thor 4 (Details)

Waititi is back!

Anyone excited to see where Thor is heading after ‘Avengers: Endgame’? Yes, we’re all are. Chris Hemsworth has repeatedly revealed his eagerness to be part of the Marvel Studios and continue reprising the role of Thunder God, Thor. He finally signed the contract to return and direct the fourth installment after his success in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’.

But him accepting this project will mean that his other project on Japanese-based comic ‘Akira’ is put on indefinite hold. ‘Akira’ was set to be released to the theater on May 21, 2021. Meanwhile, ‘Thor 4’ is yet titled and has no clear release date, although pre-production of it is bumping with Akira, so it might be released on 2021 the earliest. Phase 4 of Marvel Universe will be kicked off with Black Widow’s standalone movie, ‘The Eternals’, ‘Shang-chi’ which is still hunting for the right cast and ‘Doctor Strange 2’.

Speculations of what the new Thor movie story will be about has also arisen. Taika Waititi has a very witty approach and changed the tone of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ drastically compared to ‘Thor: Dark World’ and ‘Thor’. Waititi even took up the role of voicing Korg. The title is not yet confirmed, but upcoming San Diego Comic-con maybe the place it’s unveiled.

The cast will definitely include Chris Hemsworth, but aside from that, nobody is sure. Since most of the familiar characters that we know such as Odin, the Warriors Three, Frigga, and Heimdall were killed off in previous movies. Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) became the Queen of Asgard and Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who was killed in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ was seen alive after escaping with the Tesseract during the time heist in ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

At the end of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, Thor was seen ‘hijacking’ Star Lord’s spaceship and teasing viewers by calling the new group as Asgardians of the Galaxy, which is a reference to a comic series featuring Guardians of the Galaxy that joined hands with Thor. Although it seems that the possibility of the new group to become Asgardians of the Galaxy is unlikely, there is a huge possibility that characters from Guardians of the Galaxy will make an appearance in Thor’s movie.

Mark Ruffalo is the next possible cast to be featured in the movie as he was there with Taika Waititi in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’. Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie might also make an appearance, although she’s still on earth governing the people of Asgard while Thor is clearly out in space. It’s definitely not hard to make up a reason for Thor to find the help of Valkyrie in his quest to find a new purpose.
