Student Walked Over 20 Miles To New Job, His Boss Heard About It And Gave Him A New Car
This will spark positivity in your day.
On the first day of a new job, Walter Carr couldn’t find a ride after his 2003 Nissan Altima broke down. And as he intended not to arrive late, the Alabama college student started walking from Homewood at midnight to reach his Bellhops moving Job in Pelham by 8 a.m.
He got picked up by Pelham Police, and as he explained his ordeal, they took him to breakfast before dropping him off at the home of Jenny Lamey [pictured].
Taking to Facebook, Lamey described the incident, & it went viral. “Around 6:30 a.m., the doorbell rang. It was a police officer. He proceeded to tell us he had picked up ‘this nice kid’ in Pelham early this morning. ‘The nice kid,’ Walter said he was supposed to help us with our move today. You could tell how the officer told us this story that he had complete admiration for Walter and by my reaction, he could tell I did too.”
On seeing the post, Bellhops CEO Luke Marklin [pictured] drove from Tennessee to Alabama and presented Walter with this 2014 Ford Escape.
During an interview with WMBA, Marklin said he believed the new employee would much better use the car at his job than in his hands. Expectedly, Walter could hardly hold back his tears when he got the gift. Lamey and Marklin felt compelled to help Walter, who had moved to Birmingham from New Orleans after he and his mom lost their home in Hurricane Katrina.
Despite walking for hours, Lamey, via a GoFundMe, said Walter declined her offer to rest and had plenty of energy for the job.
AL.com reported Walter, who plans on joining the US Marine one day, hopes his story inspires others to fight for what they want out of life, even if it means having sore feet. He said: “I wanted to show them that I have the dedication and that I always have [it] in my life and that I am going to get to this job one way or the other. I tell people if you think over 20 miles is a lot, then come walk in my shoes because my shoes were really killing me that day.”
