Steam Breaks Record With More Than 20 Million Users Concurrent Online Due To Covid-19
It’s time for us to flourish, my friends.
Over 20 million people were recorded to be online at the same time, Steam Database reported. At the same time, 6.2 million people were in-game and all of this were due to Covid-19. Not sure if they should be thankful for the situation, but it’s certainly tilting towards their favor.
With Italy’s lockdown in motion and multiple countries ordering their citizens from going out too often, people are resorting to indoor entertainment. Whether that’s binge-watching ‘The Office’ for the 838th time or finally using your to-watch list or testing the new game that just came out, people are turning into shut-ins this time around.
Upon checking the site, these titles made it to the top ranking, with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive makes a strong comeback.
The last time Steam had such a record number was in January 2018 with a total of 18,537,490 users online.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, high-profile events have either been cancelled or postponed. From concerts, festivals to big annual tech conferences. Apple, Google, and Microsoft have decided to go on with the event and shifting the format into a full-online one. Employees are being requested to work from home.
