‘I’m Skinny-Shamed With No Bo*bs – But That Won’t Stop Me Wearing Bikini’
“So tell me I need to do squats, that I look like a boy – I’m secure with my body.”
Clara Dao is a content creator focusing on body positivity, and most people couldn’t imagine that women like her still face criticism for their appearance.
But Clara Dao grew up hating her figure that’s often slammed as “anorexic” and even “a dude.”
Clara is Vietnamese and was originally from Hanoi. Clara is thin, and on top of that, she’s pretty flat-chested.
She recalls one of the rude questions she’s been asked, “No offence, but how would you breast-feed a baby in future?”
Clara admitted to having considered getting breast augmentations and was desperate to put on weight to stop the comments and questions about her body. She’s spent money on supplements that promote weight gain without much research out of desperation.
She shared, “I was going through a very dark time, I was heavily into social media and I was obsessed with having a curvy figure with a tiny waist. I looked at pictures of these bodies all the time and I was into ‘body manifestation’.”
But Clara learned that it’s actually easier to love her own body and just wear what she wants regardless of the comments.
She used to dream of having a “dream body” like Kylie Jenner’s. She was 18 when she saw her friend going from A cup to D cup with breast augmentation surgery and looked up the benefits and risks.
She figured that the risks weren’t worth it and decided to learn to accept and love herself. She documented her journey of self-acceptance and spoke in one of her videos, “You see, my lack of curves doesn’t make me any less of a woman.”
