School Policy Bans Girls From Refusing Boys’ Offer To Dance

An 11-Year-Old girl was forced by Principal to dance with a boy she didn’t like at her middle school’s Valentine Day Ball.

Azlyn Hobson, a student at the Rich Middle School, Laketown, Utah got back home angered after Principal, Kip Motta told her saying NO was against the set rules.

Azlyn, according to her mother was initially excited about the dance that she even had to put on a red-pink floral sundress over leggings and a long-sleeve T-shirt.

Her mother admitted she carefully had to also arrange her hair because she long-anticipated dancing with a boy she liked.

‘She was initially excited about the whole thing, especially the morning she left. I asked her if she got a dance with the boy she liked, and she did and was very happy. In the same breath she was furious because she had to dance with a boy she disliked.’ Alicia Hobson said.

Posting a long statement on her Facebook page about the incident, Alicia wrote: ‘NO MEANS NO.’

Reaching out to the principal, Alicia demands the policy should be changed, but as claimed the principal declined. Motta, the principal defended the policy saying it’s mainly used so that kids wouldn’t be left out in anything. He also admitted students are expected to agree to dance with whoever asks them to.

Nevertheless, the Weber School District, Utah in 2018 had ordered its school to put aside a policy requiring students to accept dance partners after a parent complained bitterly that her daughter was told she couldn’t decline a boy’s invite.
