Operation London Bridge Is In Effect After Queen’s Passing

The operation starts with the Queen’s death.

England’s longest ruling monarch’s passing marked the beginning of Operation London Bridge. The Royal Family had shared that Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96 at Balmoral, Scotland.

Her Majesty was under medical supervision not too long before her death. The Royal Family shared with the public, “The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

Operation London Bridge has begun, starting from the day the monarch passes, which is marked as “D-Day.”

The subsequent days will be marked as “D+1” up to “D+10”. Politico reported that this is a 10-day operation, containing a list of things that will happen during the ten days and instructions, including how key figures will be informed of her death.

King Charles will be very much involved in the operation, from meeting the coffin to finally holding the state funeral at Westminster Abbey. On D+2, the coffin will be in Buckingham Palace. On D+3, King Charles will receive a motion of condolences at Westminster Hall, followed by a tour around the UK.

D+4, King Charles travels to Northern Ireland for another motion of condolence at Hillsborough Castle. The next day, he’ll be involved in the procession that’s taking a ceremonial route through the country’s capital.

From the sixth day up to one day before the last, there will be rehearsals for the funeral along with preparation. The state funeral takes place on the tenth day, which is also a “Day of National Mourning,” with two minutes of silence across the nation.

And then, the Queen will be buried in the castle’s King George VI Memorial Chapel.
