Mom Feels Like Prisoner When Guest Refuses To Leave Home For Months Opposes Her On National TV

Was Wendi right to confront Anne Marie’s squatting?

It’s disheartening when one has to think twice before permitting a guest to stay. This story perhaps is a message of caution.

In early 2019, an ex-neighbor reached out to Wendi Bear, a resident of Irvine California. This ex-neighbor, identified as Anne Maria asked Wendi if it was okay if she could stay for a few weeks, adding that she was moving to California and sure needed a temporary place to reside.

Anne Marie had told Wendi she had few options and was quite desperate. Responding, Wendi agreed she could stay for a month, while she gets back on her feet. The two reached an agreement that Anne Marie wouldn’t have to pay rent while she was job hunting.

But a month later, Anne Marie continues to live in the apartment, sleeping on the couch and displaying no signs of moving out anytime soon. It reached the extent where Wendi and her daughter started to feel like prisoners.

Going forward, Wendi confronted Anne and told her to get out. That’s where Wendi, however, got a lesson in how tenancy works. You perhaps would think Wendi could kick out a guest anytime, well Anne isn’t on the lease and so not paying rent.

Sadly, the law protects such type of unwanted visitors. But what eventually happened next was undeniably astonishing.
