Miss South Africa, Zozibini Tunzi, Has Been Crowned The Miss Universe 2019 Winner

Zozibini Tunzi, Miss South Africa has been crowned the Miss Universe 2019 Winner.

Beating runner-up Puerto Rico’s Madison Anderson and Mexico’s Sofia Aragon in the final three to take the tiara, the 26-Year-Old competed with 90 contestants from across the world.

Taking part in numerous segments, including best costume, swimsuit and current affairs discussion ranging from social media, protest to climate change, Ms. Zozibini revealed she is keen to teach young girls about leadership.  

‘I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me, my kind of color and style of hair is never regarded as beautiful. I think it’s time to stop that from this day. I want children to look at me, and see their faces reflected in mine.’ Ms. Zozibini added.

Expected to win a year free rent in a New York apartment, valued at $100,000 along with flying around the world for modeling opportunities, the precise prizes were not all disclosed.

Ms. Zozibini revealed she is keen to teach young girls about leadership.  

‘It’s something that has been lacking in young girls and women for quite a long time. Not because we don’t want to, but because of what society has labeled women to be. I think we are actually the most powerful beings in the world and that we should be given a chance. That’s what we should be teaching these young girls, to take up places.’ She continued.

Filipino Australian Catriona Gray, 25, Miss Universe 2018 – the 4th Filipina to be crowned Miss Universe, however, handed the crown over to Miss South Africa. Giving her final remarks, Ms. Gray told the audience at the show she will be closing out the chapter with a grateful heart.

‘To everyone who has a dream, know that your dreams are valid and that on your path you’re never denied, only redirected.’ Ms. Gray said.
