Man Takes His Dying Dog Up His Favourite Mountain In Wheelbarrow For One Last Walk

“He was a lovely little lad.”

Carlos Fresco and his Labradoodle Monty have walked long hills around the United Kingdom over the years, including visiting the Brecon Beacons. Being one of their favorite locations, Carlos decided to push 10-Year-Old Monty, battling with Leukemia in a wheelbarrow, to the spot one last time while knowing the pet doesn’t have a long time left.

On one final walk, Carlos Fresco, 57, took his dying pet dog Monty up Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons.

Fresco knew his 10-year-old pet diagnosed with leukemia didn’t have long left.

It’s heartbreaking, yet it’s an adventure 57-Year-Old Carlos wanted his pet to enjoy before he passes away. Monty was diagnosed with cancer 18 months ago and had responded well to chemotherapy. But the dog’s leukemia returned 8weeks ago, and he began to decline faster than expected.

Here’s Monty up Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons so he could enjoy one last adventure.

“I put Monty in it on top of a load of blankets and started wheeling him to the top of Pen Y Fan. He loved it, and the reaction he got from other walkers was amazing. They all took turns in helping to push the barrow and Monty, enjoyed that because he’d always adored people and being made a fuss of.” Carlos reportedly said.

Monty always loved hill walks, so Carlos improvised to make sure he could get him to the top.

According to Carlos, strangers even offered to help push Monty up the hills.

He added: “I was bowled over by the kindness we were shown, to be honest – total strangers taking the time out to say hello and lend a hand in getting him to the summit.” However, Monty eventually passed away at the foot of his master’s bed a few days later.

Monty is now at peace, and indeed it’s safe to say he was truly one special boy!

In particular, Monty hung on until the morning after Father’s Day.  “I peered over the mattress, and he’d gone. He looked so peaceful, though, and I’m glad we got to go on one last adventure together. He was a lovely little lad.” Carlos stated. Monty is now at peace, and indeed it’s safe to say he was truly one special boy loved by all he crosses paths with.
