Love Island Reveals Its First-Ever Deaf Contestant

A proof that inclusivity is vital.

Natasha Ghouri, born deaf but with a cochlear implant, is set to join the group of Love Island for this year’s competition. The 23-Year-Old dancer had previously appeared in an Ad campaign for ASOS, in which she shed light on her disability and insisted: “No matter what disability you’ve got, you can do it.”

However, an ITV Source has told The Sun that producers are really excited to have Natasha onboard this season.

“Everyone is very excited. It’s something really positive for youngsters to see. Natasha looks amazing in a bikini and has a bubbly personality,” the source alleged. This summer, the hit series is set to return to the screens, with many young singletons looking for the special ONE.

So far, the producers of Love Island have been praised for Natasha’s involvement in the upcoming show.

“We are pleased that another major TV show is featuring a deaf contest. Representation matters,” Annie Harris of the Royal National Institute for Deaf People said. While the show has reportedly said rumors around the cast are speculation, the news of Natasha’s inclusion comes after ITV dropped a teaser for the new series.

The teaser poked fun at Ex On The Beach and Celebs Go Dating by showing a television show titled Naked Celebs Go Dating On A Beach.

The Ad then said: “Love Island is the OG of dating shows, and after 7 years of matching, marriages and babies, for 8 weeks this summer, we’re officially owning love. So stand down all you pretenders – Love is Ours.” Kevin Lygo, ITV’s managing director, has told PA the team is delighted for everyone to see the new gaff.

And about the house, Kevin shared they didn’t own it as it was rented but would be choosing a new home for this summer; hence that’s all secrecy. He added: “It is going to be marvelous. Yes, it is going to be in Mallorca. It’s going to be a great one [referring to the series].”
