Legendary ‘6666’ Texas Ranch Goes On Sale After The Demise Of Heiress Who Married 4 Times

Owning a mega ranch, one which has sprawling nature characteristics, is a dream for a lot. But even for people with the means to purchase it, finding adequate workable acreage is no easy feat in today’s world. In particular, Texas has been pretty well carved up, and most of its largest ranches have, over time, been subdivided as they are passed from generation to generation.

The legendary Texas ranch, popularly known as the ‘6666’ is presently selling for $192.2million. Located between Lubbock and Dallas with over 142,000 acres, the ranch has been owned by Marion’s family for over 150years.

It’s recognized as one of the biggest in the United States, and since its owner Anne Marion passed away due to lung cancer, the ranch has been left with no occupant. The Businesswoman and Philanthropist Marion died at age 81 and had owned several ranches, including the 6666 ranches.

The ranch runs 20miles long and 12 miles wide. Over 140,000 acres of the ranch are untouched, and numerous rivers run through the property. It features pen areas, multiple barns, 13 bedrooms, three powder rooms, 13 bathrooms, a dining room, three fireplaces, and two kitchens. The property’s pastures range from around 900 to 10000 acres each, while the lower valley areas of the property have trees, including hackberries, willows, and soapberries.

Similarly, the home features a loft barn, which provided Marlboro cigarette adverts’ backdrop in the 1960 and ’70s. There are horse sheds, bunkhouses, dog kennel, round pen, two laborer houses, 20 employee houses, and a shop building. Additionally, the property has 36000 square foot enclosed airplane hanger as a private landing strip.

The ranch listing marks the first time it’s been placed on the market. Former President George W. Bush had described Marion as a True Texan, a generous member of the community, a great patron of the arts, and a person of both elegance and strength via a statement.

Marion, the ex-trustee of the Museum of Modern Art in New York with Husband John Marion, a chief auctioneer, had launched the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe (1997). Just as her biological mother had, the heiress had gotten married four times – three marriages concluded in divorce while her marriage to Mr. Marion did last. 

She’s survived by her daughter Windi Grimes, the great-great-granddaughter of old Burk Burnett – the ranch founder in 1870. However, the ranch was initially purchased by Captain Samuel Burk Burnett, who became one of the most influential cattlemen in Texas’s history, having started with 100 head of cattle branded as 6666.
