‘I Have 8 Years of Flying Experience’: Woman Gets Mistaken As A Flight Attendant, So She Challenges The Stereotype
Despite the fact that she’s wearing the proper pilot uniform, she would still get asked.
A viral TikTok from a woman who works as a pilot has got people bringing up talks about gender stereotyping in the aviation industry. It was Sabrina, a 22-year-old pilot with 8 years of experience.
She was born and raised with parents to support her passion, and Sabrina was always obvious on her love for flight.
Passengers and employees alike often think she’s an attendant even when she’s dressed properly as a pilot. And when it happened one time, she decided to record and share it on TikTok while sharing her annoyance at the constant mistake. It’s gone viral that has people relating to her issues and praising her.
The video reached 2 million views before she was invited to podcasts and TV programs, discussing about the common gender stereotyping in not just piloting, but also other industries.
Pilot is, indeed, an unusual job for women. But the statistics has been better at 30% today. What’s very unusual, actually, was the average age, which is 45.
Sabrina starts flying solo at the age of 16 and had been picking up flying as her hobby in her teenage years. She graduated at 20 years old as a flight instructor with a pilot license for helicopters. She’s become a main inspiration for many young people who aspires to be a pilot.
