HOA Demands Neighborhood Take Down Christmas Lights As It ‘Upsets’ Her
When you let the Karens into the association.
The idea of joining the homeowner’s associations is to form a community that helps each other. Rules are made in hopes that they can be respected to maintain peace in the neighborhood. But when handed to the wrong people, like Karens, they become a cauldron of disasters which purpose is only to annoy the hell out of people.
“A local HOA Karen forced a father to tear down his kids’ recently built treehouse,” reads one post shared by a Redditor.
The story you’ll see is one of a man who was adamant that the HOA couldn’t stop him from putting up Christmas lights. If you are confused, yes, apparently, the HOA thinks the lights he put up were not within the range of what they liked.
But he started getting cold feet about his stance, “AITA for putting up my Christmas lights early even though the HOA that I’m not a part of says it violates the rules and upsets the people in the HOA?”
He stood by his principles and did not entertain their requests but got second thoughts about it.
There is just so much crap you can take from someone who tells you to “respect” the rules of an association you are not part of.
With the Christmas holiday nearing in and many people similarly finding themselves in the same grudge against Karen HOAs, the post raised to popularity with over 20k upvotes. Comments poured in, and many told him to remain with his principles because Christmas lights aren’t going to hurt anyone.
He later shared, “I usually don’t get around to taking down Christmas stuff till after New Year at the earliest.”
A user suggested, “NTA, although if they are bright, turning most of them off after 11 pm or so might be the courteous thing to do if they seem to shine onto/into your neighbors’ houses.”
