Glamorous ‘Pottery Girl’ Goes Viral For Her Wet Ceramic Sessions
A small business idea?
Many people, especially Australians, feel very suffocated from the lockdown. It’s only natural that many of us are looking for something new to keep us occupied, like new hobbies.
Silk Castellas-Cartwright from Melbourne, Australia, decided to pick up pottery and went viral immediately on TikTok.

The 21-year-old woman started picking up the hobby earlier this year and took several classes. She began making clips on TikTok for fun while working on her ceramics with a small business in mind. To her shock, people loved watching her work as her clip got over 20 million views.
Her cute attitude and demeanor charmed those who watched her as she worked on her pottery.

She set up a small online shop where she sells her own creation, By Silk. The account made about half a year ago has now had over 9k followers on Instagram.
She shares about her creative works, “I make pieces that are modern and fun, and that can be used functionally but also as a piece of art on their own.”

She started picking up the hobby because of her travel plans going down the drain when Australia entered yet another lockdown period.
“I planned to travel for the year after finishing my Arts degree but found myself with a lot of spare time in and out of lockdowns.”
“I bought some clay and started hand-building pieces and then enrolled in a few classes at a local pottery studio to learn wheel throwing,” she continued sharing about how she started getting her own wheel and kiln.
Her first pottery video was shared back in May, and it immediately blew up with over 800k views.

“I get inspiration from contemporary art and sculpture, and also a lot from fashion trends.”
Silk shares that she scraps over 50% of the things she makes as she’s still learning a lot. But for the ones that were to her likings, she has them put up in her shop.
She now has over 500k followers on TikTok, where she shares clips of herself making ceramic pots and glasses.
