As a puppy, Freddy was the litter’s runt who wouldn’t feed off his mom properly
Interestingly, Freddy wasn’t destined for such great heights. Stoneman remembered how as a puppy, Freddy was the litter’s runt who wouldn’t feed off his mom properly. ‘I had no idea he was going to get his big at all.’ Stoneman had said.
‘Freddy was such a gentle giant, and is always a pleasure to see him bounding towards you’
Reacting to the loss, Guinness World Records Editor-In-Chief added: ‘Freddy was such a gentle giant, and is always a pleasure to see him bounding towards you. Measuring this mountain of a dog was unforgettable –if challenging-experience and I will forever treasure a couple of occasions I got to share a sofa with him –there was just about enough room for two of us!
‘Freddy brought a smile to everyone’s face and will be missed by everyone at Guinness World Records
‘I still can barely believe that he was the runt of the litter. Freddy brought a smile to everyone’s face and will be missed by everyone at Guinness World Records. I am pleased we got the chance to celebrate his record-breaking immensity in the books and share his story with millions of people worldwide. RIP, Freddy.’
May 17, 2020, Freddy celebrated his 8th birthday with cakes, balloons, and bunting in Stoneman’s garden
In 2020, Daily Mail reported Freddy’s 8th birthday on May 17, where Stoneman organized a party complete with cakes, balloons, and bunting in her home garden. During this time, Freddy was considered one of the world’s oldest Great Danes, with a life expectancy between 8 and 10years. Before Freddy, the title of World’s tallest dog had been held by Zeus (a female)– a Great Dane from Ostego Michigan, measuring 7ft4in. Zeus passed away at age five in September 2014.
