Miss England Beauty Queen Face 20 Years In Mexican Prison For Smuggling Over $300,000 Drugs
She’s facing one of the most serious charges in Mexico.
Former beauty queen, Jennifer Young, is facing up to 20 years of incarceration after she was arrested for attempted smuggling. The 33-year-old was reportedly out of touch with her parents until recently. Over £250,000 worth of ketamine was found on her as she attempted to smuggle them through the Cancun airport.
She’s suspected for drug trafficking and allegedly, 13kg of drug was found hidden inside the false bottom of her suitcase.
She was a Miss Derby contestant at the age of 17 and for six months, had only told her family that she was traveling to Mexico. They only knew she’s being jailed five weeks ago when she missed her call for her mom on her birthday.
Her mom told DailyMail, “I’m still in shock. I knew Jenny was in Mexico but I thought she was travelling. I’ve only just found out Jenny is in prison. My birthday is in March and wherever in the world Jenny is she calls me. But she didn’t get in touch and I started to worry.”
“Then I got a message from her friend. I asked him where she was. After a lot of messages, he finally told me that she was in jail. I couldn’t believe it,” her mom recalled.
“Then I found out the whole story. That she had been in jail in Cancun for months. It was horribly over-crowded. I don’t know how many people were in her cell, but it was terrible.”
“But in February she was moved to another prison outside Mexico City. She has been charged with drug trafficking but she hasn’t been put on trial yet. She could get a 20-year sentence. I’m so worried.”
Young was born to a British mom and German father in Germany. She works as a model and a tour guide and left Derby, her hometown, when she was 19.
On her site promoting her biography as a tour guide and avid traveler, she wrote that she’s a “model and study natural healing.” She’s also lived in “Asia, Australia, Canada” and has traveled to over 40 countries in total.
She’s been visited by the British Consul and will be meeting her lawyer this week for her trial. Her mother shared, “She is fine now she has a cell to herself. It’s much better than the other place. Prisoners are allowed to have visits from family members. Relatives bring in food and other things. Jenny says she gets three meals a day but they are very small portions.”
Angela shared that for months, her daughter had been calling her from jail, but managed to hide the fact that she was arrested.
“I’m still coming to terms with what happened. I find sleeping difficult, but it’s not about me,” shared the mom. “It’s about how Jenny is going to get through all this.”
