Elon Musk Tweets He’ll Sell Tesla Stock If UN Can Prove How $6B Will Solve World Hunger
Plus he wants “the public sees precisely how the money is spent.”
Elon Musk challenged the UN back after World Food Programme Director David Beasley made a tweet poking the Tesla CEO to give out $6B in a casual effort to solve world hunger.
The SpaceX CEO’s tweet was liked over 234k, proof that people are interested in how they’ll reply.
Speaking on CNN’s Connect the World, Beasley plead to the top 1%, notably Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, to “step up now, on a one-time basis.”
He added, “$6 billion to help 42 million people that are literally going to die if we don’t reach them. It’s not complicated.”
The tweet taunted the billionaire who’d just passed Jeff Bezos when it comes to wealth asked him to donate $6.6 billion to WFP.
Bloomberg states that Musk’s current net worth is at $289 billion, which means $6.6 billion is only 2% of his total wealth.
In defense, Beasley tweeted back that the money “will not solve world hunger” but solve many temporary crises.
“It will prevent geopolitical instability, mass migration, and save 42 million people on the brink of starvation,” wrote the man. He refers to the scarcity of resources people are currently facing in Afghanistan from coupled with the changing climate, and natural disasters are brewing the “perfect storm.”
“I don’t know where they’re getting the food from,” he continued when referring to another crisis in Ethiopia. “We’re out of fuel. We’re out of cash in terms of paying our people, and we are running out of money, and we can’t get our trucks in.”
