Brazilian TV Hostess Steals The Spotlight At World Cup Draw As 10 People Per Second Tweet About Her
Is giving her the job sending a wrong message?
Moments after taking the stage at the World Cup Draw, Brazilian model and actress Fernanda Lima started to trend on Twitter, stealing the spotlight away from the prospect of a summer of football. Her presence ensured male football fans lost interest in England’s chances of the lifting trophy.
Reportedly, 36-Year-Old Lima, dressed in a gold dress and matching heels, attracted ten people per second around the globe tweeting about her.
At the event, Ms. Lima [pictured below with FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke] color-coordinated her ensemble with the glittering World Cup trophy, which stood on a plinth on the stage. One person, named Gavin Caney, described the hostess as “the real winner at the World Cup Draw.” Equally, Burak Serin posted: “The best part of the draw is surely watching Fernanda Lima #worldcupdraw.”
Another, Behan added: “In fairness, Lima did a good job on the World Cup draw. Hmm, why can’t I remember who any group consists of.”
While Lima was praised by many, her choice of clothing, however, left some outraged, including prominent Iranian television presenter Adel Ferdosipour who shed light on their national broadcasting guidelines, saying: “To be honest with you, the dress of the lady who presents the show does not meet our broadcasting guidelines at all.”
Fast forward to 2021, FIFA has been forced to apologize, with their spokesperson being diplomatic before offering a view of the situation.
They officially said: “FIFA is sorry to hear that anybody took offense of this but on a personal note, as a woman, I would like to state there was nothing disrespectful about her dress.” Fortunately for Lima, she had been re-invited by FIFA to host the short-lived FIFA Ballon d’Or ceremony alongside Rudd Gullit.
