Boy, 9, Got In Trouble For Doodling In Class Gets A Job Decorating A Restaurant With His Drawings
When creativity gets channeled in the right way.
Everyone is talented in their own way – some in art, others in math and some more in understanding how mechanical things work. It’s all about finding the right way to channel those talents. That’s what Joe Whale’s experienced and at the age of 9, he is paid for his talent.
Here’s Green Lemon coverage on the story of Joe Whale, ‘The Doodle Boy’.
Joe is 9 and he gets in trouble for doodling in class.
The school did the right thing because that was the rule. And Joe’s notebooks are full of creative doodles. And just look at how neat they are!
Because of his talent, his dad, Greg, decided to enroll him to an after-school drawing class. Greg also recalls that Joe was in the ‘Gifted’ registry back in primary school when he was just 4 due to his artistic talents.
This is Joe working in ‘Number 4’ restaurant.
His artistic drawings were getting recognition by a staff of ‘Number 4’ restaurant. He asked if Joe wants to be employed to draw on one of the walls of the restaurant.
Of course, he said yes. Where else do kids get to draw on the walls AND paid for it?
It took him 12 hours to finish the drawings on the wall.
Joe did an exceptional job on the wall, but it wasn’t without his parents’ support. Greg encourages parents to let their kids follow their passion and dreams. There is always something – a community or workshop, where kids can channel their hobbies.
There are many ways to describe ‘troublesome kids’. Sometimes they are just artistic, active, mature, clever – it should be adults that help them find what they love to do. Opening the way towards professionalism, it’s safe to say Joe’s parents did a great job in letting him do what he loves to do the most.
