An Extremely Rare Once-In-A-Lifetime Yellow Penguin Captured By Wildlife Photographer

Penguins are cute creatures and to see one in the wild remains astonishing. Known for their natural yet classic black-and-white tuxedo, one penguin has, however, ditched this for a completely different appearance: Yellow and White.  Yves Adams, a wildlife photographer, luckily captured the extremely unusual creature (first ever seen) amid a South Georgia trip.

43-Year-Old Yves and his team specifically landed at Salisbury to photograph the colony of over 120K king penguins. But amid unpacking his equipment, the rare bird who had a bright yellow plumage instantly caught his attention.

‘I’d never seen or heard of a yellow penguin before. There were 120,000 birds on that beach, and this was the only yellow one there. We were so lucky the bird landed right where we were. A sea of the massive animal didn’t block our view.’

Yves had photographed the bird in December 2019, but it took him over a year to release the photos.

‘Normally, it’s almost impossible to move on this beach because of them all. It was heaven that he landed by us. If it had been 50 meters away, we wouldn’t have been able to get this show of a lifetime.’ Photographer Yves told Kennedy News. The yellow penguin is believed to be leucistic.

The Belgian photographer claims the yellow penguin is leucistic; hence it has a condition that affects its pigmentation, which resulted in turning the bird’s black feathers into yellow. Nonetheless, Yves was embarking on a two-month photography expedition through Antarctica and the South Atlantic when the tour paused at the wild islands of South Georgia for the incredible snaps.
