Amazed Driver Was Pulled Over And Fined $173 For Drinking Water Behind The Wheel

Have you been fined for drinking water while driving?

A driver in Brisbane has been fined for drinking from a plastic water bottle while behind the wheel driving during one of the hottest days of the year.

The motorist, Brock Harris, who hails from Beaudesert, west of the Gold Coast was pulled over as he was driving toward his house.

Brock, who had worked 12 hours in a 39C heat, was accused of not driving with care and attention before being fined $173, a police officer revealed.

Responding, the shocked driver said he was trying to keep his fluids up after a scorching day in South East, Queensland.

‘If it’s against the law, then I will pay the fine, but it’s not compassionate to fine an individual on a 39-degree day for trying to stay hydrated,’ Brock told ABC.

Protested after being pulled over, but told by a police officer he was doing his job, David Johnson of Road Policing Command, the Queensland Police Superintendent said drinking water while behind the wheel can be very illegal, for the driver can lose control of the car.

There are many individuals who consume drinks while driving and do it safely in a safe manner. For us to have issued a fine, we have really looked at the circumstances to see if the driver’s actions are causing risk on others or on them.’ Supt. Johnson also told the ABC.
