Joe on his journey to make a living from being awkward.
It is really not easy to live in a world as an introvert before the pandemic. To socialize means that we have to exert extra energy to be… nice. Thanks to lockdown, now we can chill in our home, turning off the video in Zoom meetings, and read comics about how hilarious awkward people can be on Green Lemon.
PortugueseGeese is the name that Joe Holtby goes by when he uploads comics. Describing himself, Joe wrote, “My name is Joe, and I like to make comics about how awkward I am.”
Joe has been making webcomics since 2015, and he loves making them. The name PortugueseGeese is derived from the fact that he’s half Portuguese and half American. He has over 12.3k followers on Instagram and one of the rising stars in the world of comic-making.

Joe also sells T-shirts of his own designs. When talking about how his comics sprung to life, Joe shares that they often come from his own (awkward) experiences. He develops these instances into short stories and started sketching them. The full process into a finished comic can take up to 4 hours for Joe.
