China Opens £13.5bn Mega-Airport In Beijing With World’s Biggest Terminal

The Chinese President, Xi Jinping chaired the inauguration of a 2nd International Airport in Beijing with a terminal dubbed as the world’s biggest.
The Beijing Daxing International Airport, developed in less than 5 years for 120 billion yuan, an equivalent of $16.8bilion has a carrying capacity of 72 million passengers in 365 days.

Travelers using the airport will have to walk more than 600 meters before reaching any boarding gate
Reportedly, the airline’s 1st commercial flight, the China Southern Airline bound for the Southern Province of Guangdong, on Wednesday. Accordingly, six more flights later took off for Shanghai and various destinations.
The country’s capital main airport is currently the world’s second-busiest after the Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Daxing International Airport, designed by Late Iraq-British Architect, Zaha Hadid entails a terminal branded as the world’s biggest at a 1 million square meters. Travelers using the airport will have to walk more than 600 meters before reaching any boarding gate.
The airport is, however, 30 miles south of downtown Beijing and has four runways. There is a plan for 3 or more runways. Interestingly, domestic and foreign carriers are planning to head to the new airport for their operations.
