Woman Gets Trolled For Marrying Disabled Man, She Hits Them Back

It’s just plain horrible when people who don’t even know you in real life suddenly call you a gold digger. Just because you married a disabled man, just because you’re an ‘able-bodied’ woman who could have married anyone else. Just because the world is such a horrible place with horrible human beings, you’re being lumped in together with them as well.

‘Squirmy and Grubs’ YouTube channel owners, Shane Burcaw and Hannah Aylward, recently got married (Congratulations!). But it was so unfortunate that people decided to instead leave hate comments on this happy occasion.

The happily married Minnesota couple shared their wedding pictures and Hannah couldn’t be happier with it. But hate comments quickly swarmed in and we genuinely wonder how they could be so fast to share negative comments on a happy ocassion.

From posting dollar emojis, a ‘wtf’ to asking if he is rich and why she would marry some she has to take care of the rest of her life. Some are just straight horrible that basically says she is out of his league and is a gold digger for marrying him.

But, don’t we all care for our partner for the rest of our life as the vow says? In sickness and in health? Anyways, she decided to give a good reply because let’s all be honest – we want these haters shut down.

For those of you who don’t know them, Shane was born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). This condition causes his muscles to deteriorate over time because the central nervous system begins to lose control of motor neurons that are responsible for muscle movement.

Even with this condition, Shane is a public motivational speaker as well as a writer. His story was made into a documentary by Rainn Wilson and this is the reason why Hannah reached out to him. She complimented his sense of humor and admitted he is very cute.

Eventually, they got to know each other more through text messages and FaceTime. They fell in love and launched their YouTube channel ‘Squirmy and Grubs⁣’ that talks about the relationship for people with special needs. They talk about all kinds of things, including their intimate life where they jokingly told their family members to just happily move along from the video (before they are scarred for life!).

Yet, the hate comments had obviously come from people who doesn’t know the couple really well. Some said this was Photoshopped, some even suggested Hannah might have an affair out there because Shane is just not capable in bed.

Hannah’s comment, however, is so uplifting for anyone.

“If the past two years of having a YouTube channel have taught me anything, it’s that you’re never going to be able to educate everyone. No matter what you do, some people will just never come around. Worrying about these people’s opinions is a waste of time, and as time has gone on, it’s become so much easier to genuinely have no internal reaction to comments like these.

“A few years ago, reading words like these was painful. For a while, I held onto the idea that once Shane and I were married, all the people doubting our relationship would realize it was real. Now, of course, I’m not that naive. Although it’s taken time, I’m able to completely dismiss people like this. Shane and I continue to make content and share our story with the hopes of showing as many people as we can that disabled people are worthy partners.”

Shane has been in wheelchair since he was 2 years old and one of the positive thing that comes out from this couple? It’s that instead of ‘wheelchair-bound’, it’s the complete opposite them. Wheelchair has allowed Shane the freedom of movement if anything!

Hannah also shared old pictures from her mom’s wedding!

Fun fact: the private wedding was done through zoom and it broke up once. But everything else was smooth for the happy couple! And they are also ready for kids now that Hannah has taken off birth control.

Shane doesn’t feel that much difference because they’ve “been practically, like, married for two years.”
