Disney+ Is Now Warning Children Cartoons As Unsuitable For Them

Disney+ is a streaming service by Disney that always prides itself on providing R-13 shows. Yet, the new streaming service has been listing several of its best childhood classics with warnings. Some movies probably won’t ever see the daylight due to their racism depictions.

One particular movie that made it to the screen is ‘Dumbo’ from 1941. While it can be streamed without cuts, it now contains warnings such as ‘Tobacco depictions’ and ‘outdated cultural depictions’. This may refer to ‘Jim Crow’ who was a character that represented the segregation law during that era.

The following movies and shows also contain similar warnings: The Jungle Book (1967), Fantasia (1940), Swiss Family Robinson (1940, 1960), The Aristocats (1970). Peter Pan (1953), Lady and the Tramp (1955), The Sign of Zorro (1958) and Mickey Mouse shorts from the 1920s to 1940s.

On the other hand, less-outdated shows such as ‘Beauty and The Beast’, ‘Pocahontas’ and ‘Mulan’ were not flagged. Viewers have also noticed missing episodes, such as ‘The Simpsons’ on ‘Stark Raving Dad’ that features Michael Jackson from 1991.

There has been a mixed response to the warnings for the content that was meant for children. Some salute on their attempt to prevent society that now has high social awareness and sensitivity towards racial slurs, but others think this is purely annoying.
