This Woman Got A Diagnosis For Her Chronic Pain Was Caught On Video, And It’s Tear-Jerking

The big relief longed for.

Johnelle Mercer, 19, has been dealing with painful periods ever since her first period. She underwent medical consultations, but the chronic pain was always dismissed as a difficult period. She went to doctor appointments for years but never got a solution. Thankfully, the doctor she recently met has been able to diagnose her with Pelvic Congestion Syndrome, a condition that causes severe pelvic pain during menstrual cycles.

Johnelle Mercer has over the years suffered a complicated health issue that’s related to her period.

The moment the medical profession revealed they’ve found the cause of Mercer’s pain was caught on video. And in the now-viral TikTok clip, viewed over 21million times, a medic could be heard saying, “They found the reason for your pain that will be able to be treated.” Mercer can be seen crying before she responded: “They did? They really did? You’re not lying to me? They found it? Finally – can I give her a hug?”

Every woman whose period pain has been doubted by doctors will find Mercer’s reaction relatable.

As seen, Mercer felt an overwhelming relief when she got finally diagnosed. In an interview with BuzzFeed, she claimed her video went viral because so many women could relate to issues being dismissed in a medical setting. She added: “The message I have for people who are in the same situation is just not to give up; get a new doctor if yours don’t listen. I was reaching my point of giving up, and I finally got answers.”

The 19-year-old was diagnosed with PCS, which explains the excruciating pain she experiences during her period.

PCS occurs when the veins in the pelvic region, particularly those around the uterus and ovaries, enlarge, change shape and become engorged with blood.

Doctors have been able to run additional tests to help Mercer find the best treatment options. She claimed she has one message for doctors, and it read: “PLEASE, listen to your patients; be more compassionate towards us. We’re in pain, looking for answers. We can’t find answers without you, so please just listen to us.” However, Pelvic Congestion Syndrome, according to Laura Meihofer, a pelvic floor physical therapist, is a vascular disorder

By coming out, Mercer has created a voice for women with health issues to be heard.

Her message to doctors: “PLEASE, listen to your patients; be more compassionate towards us. We’re in pain, looking for answers.”

PCS occurs when the veins in the pelvic region, particularly those around the uterus and ovaries, enlarge, change shape and become engorged with blood. Laura explained that these changes in the veins don’t allow for adequate drainage, resulting in the blood pooling. The polling, in turn, then causes increased pressure, pain, and many additional issues. Pain with intercourse or pain following intercourse is a symptom of PCS.
