Athlete, 21, Had No One To Sponsor Her Trip To The Olympics, So She Worked At A Supermarket
This is both inspiring and creative.
The Olympics brought athletes worldwide, but one who is making the headline is Rising Australian star Riley Day. The 21-Year-Old gave an enticing glimpse of what she could achieve in the next few years, having smashed her 200m PB with a time of 22.56 seconds.
That said, it turned out Riley sponsored herself to the Olympics after working at a grocery store to save money.
Riley Day, the Australian sprinter, had no sponsor yet funded her trip to the Olympics by working at Woolworth’s grocery store.
The Olympian athlete didn’t have any sponsors, yet she competed in the biggest sporting event in the world! The Sprinter began her career at 9-Years-Old, and her greatest achievements until competing in the Olympics were winning a gold medal in the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in 200 meters and a silver in the 100 meters.
On the day of her competition, Woolworths expressed their support and wished Riley good luck on Linkedln.
To achieve her dream, Riley got a part-time job at an Australian Supermarket named Woolworths. On the day of her competition, the supermarket shared a post on their LinkedIn page with a caption that read: “We are proud to see one of our team members represent Australia on the world stage. Good luck Riley, we can’t wait to see you on the track!”
Riley was seen in the 200m run and passed to the semi-finals, but her competition concluded there.
Woolworths equally shared a photo of Riley and a customer named John, who is 90-Years-Old and visually impaired. It was stated that Riley regularly helps John with his weekly shop, and if she notices that he didn’t come around, the athlete calls him up to check-in. As it appears, Riley’s hard work, including taking care of stock, paid off. She was seen in the 200m run, passed to the semi-finals, but her competition concluded there.

The Olympian was satisfied with her results, and what’s more, she’s garnering more recognition. “Holy s**t! That was a much better race than this morning. I’ve got my groove. Now I hope it’s the fastest heat so I can get in the final. Because that is a massive PB, that’s awesome. I want to be the best, and nothing is going to stop me from being the best.” Riley had told Channel 7.
Although Riley didn’t enter the final, she ran faster than ever and was even impressed with herself.
So far, her story has witnessed an effect. Her following leaped from 21,000 to 105K on Instagram. Some people called for sponsors to step in and provide the Queensland native with better funding. But, reportedly, Riley has vowed to stay at Woolworths while studying for a business degree in Sports Management at Griffith University.
