Cool, cool. They are herbivores, right?

The year 2020 is the real deal when it comes to a bad year. Australian fire, the pandemic, and most recently, rampaging cop violence. Yeah, we would love to see this year-end, but hold on! Someone just had to post up a picture of very well-preserved remains of the fearsome extinct bird, Moa.

Polynesians were people that first arrived at the island and bear the last witness to these birds’ existence. Today, Moas have extinct for the past 7 centuries and only illustrations and fossils are left.

The birds extinction that happened about 700-800 years ago was also around the time after Polynesians first arrived on the island. Extensive hunting when Moas only lay one egg is the only explanation to how this beautiful species was snuffed out of earth. Only few believe that Moas are not yet completely gone, despite lack of evidence.

The claw was found over 30 years ago and speculations had it that the claw was well hidden under a rock that allow only it to be preserved while the body decomposed, hunted by men, or eaten by predators.

Beautiful fossil tracks of Moa.
