Scary, but we need to see them.
Who still remembers ‘Black Mirror’? Every episode from the dystopian, sci-fi Netflix show depicts an aspect from late-stage capitalism and futuristic technology concepts along with ethically questionable applications. The stories may have been exaggerated to stir up the viewers, but is reality really that far off?
We thought that a dystopian world is still very far off. But the harsh truth is we’re not and is probably living in one right now. The pandemic has made it that the Internet and TV become our main sources of information and entertainment. We only see what the media wants us to see.
The things people do to remain in power and earn maximum profit at the cost of others… we’re living in our own episode of ‘Black Mirror.’ In the subreddit called ‘A Boring Dystopia,’ people converge under one same idea: people are blind to the ginormous problems the society is facing.
