When it comes to the ‘Roast Me’ subreddit, everything is a fair game. People head to the group to find the most hurtful burn, fully agreeing and understanding that it is where people roast each other. These 16 people had it worse than most.

“Do your worst, Reddit. 20 yo college student, awkward and weird.”
“Ten years ago I purchased a $50 Groupon for professional acting headshots. The results were… unfortunate. Please destroy me for this choice.”
Is swearing bad? When you head to the internet, it’s very easy to be exposed to explicit language. But do people who use the ‘f’ word are automatically bad? Emma Byrne wrote the book ‘Swearing Is Good for You: The Amazing Science of Bad Language‘ which explains how swearing is “beneficial to us both as individuals and as a species.”
“The hoodie I’m wearing has to holes in the back. Roast me.”
“Just got out of jail this morning. welcome me back to the internet.”
“21F. home from college & my mom is keeping me quarantined in the basement for 14 days until I can interact with her. please roast me.”

“About to come home after spending the last 3yrs in the desert. Going to be a freshman in college at 26. Please no jokes about my $40k truck or my 3 divorces. It hurts my feelings.”
Bryne continued to explain how swearing is part of social cues and returning swears is akin to returning a hug. It’s awkward when you don’t do so – but because it’s a taboo, it’s a great tool to show who you trust. But it’s true that there are some people who are just not cut out for it.
“When I finally succeeded in dropping some “f-s” into a conversation with my husband, he gently told me I sounded like I was auditioning for a part in a play. It’s just not me,” said Danielle Friedman on The Cut.
“Exes but have been bffs for years. Both grew up LDS. Do your worst.”

The swearing culture also shifted after the 18th century when the belief that “women’s language should be pure” stop many from cursing. Even generations later, this value is still being imparted to remove cursing words from our dictionary as “an important feminine value.”
Bryne also reminds people that if you really want your ‘curses’ to be well-perceived. They have to be genuine; do not swear just for the sake of doing it because people can feel how fake it is!
