Zayn Malik, 30, Gives Rare Insight Into Fatherhood In First Interview In 6 Years
Zayn Malik discussed his two-year-old daughter Khai, and says she brought color back to his life.
The former One Direction star shares his only child with ex-GF Gigi Hadid who he split from in October 2021 and he now says his main focus is being a good example to her. In his first interview in six years on the Call Her Daddy Podcast with Alex Cooper, Zayn Malik sweetly told how his daughter Khai, 2, brought color back to his life and admitted that his view on life has shifted since he welcomed Khai in September 2020.
Zayn Malik and Gigi first met in 2015 at a Victoria’s Secret Party. The couple was then on and off for almost six years.
The “Better” singer said on the podcast: ‘Since I’ve had my daughter the main thing in my life is trying to be a good example to her. That’s why I’m even doing this interview. I used to get a lot of anxiety around doing a conversation like this but I want her to be able to look at me and say ‘My dad’s doing this’. Zayn Malik then laughed as he added: ‘I keep being told I’m telling dad jokes and I’m leaning into it it’s okay, it’s cool.’
The Pillowtalk singer continued, ‘People just look at me like I’m a weirdo and I’m like well I’m a dad now so I’m allowed to tell these jokes! I think we all get to a certain point in adult life where everything sort of seems vague and grey and boring and she’s brought that color back to my life for me.’ Zayn also touched on the effects the levels of fame he experienced in One Direction had on him. He left the band in March 2015 while the others continued as a four-piece.
On his time in One Direction, he said: ‘I feel like we were so overexposed in the band that like that is why I have taken the time away to not do interviews.’ He added of being stereotyped: ‘They just said to me ‘Oh you can be the mysterious one’ but it wasn’t necessarily my personality, I’m just chill. Some people have very high-energy personalities and it’s just not the way I am.’ The interview comes as Zayn melted hearts when he posted a pic of himself doing some gardening in a sweet snap taken by his daughter.
In his recent Instagram Story snap, taken by Khai, the singer, who sported white, grey shorts and a pair of white and red trainers, was captured from the back as he waters grass on his farm.
However, during Zayn and Gigi’s time apart, the latter has romantically been linked to race car driver Lewis Hamilton and Bachelorette alum Tyler Cameron. The pair officially called it quits after an altercation that involved Gigi’s mom, Yolanda Hadid. At the time, the RHOBH star alleged Malik had pushed her. But despite Zayn denying the accusation, he was sentenced to nearly a year of probation and domestic violence and anger management programs. Since then, the two have been co-parenting their daughter.
