Women’s magazines are regularly filled with articles offering strategies to encourage men to propose marriage. Accordingly, a few websites have launched a dedication to increasing people’s marrying-ability. While both men and women can’t be hesitant about marriage, waiting for a spouse can undeniably be frustrating. One partner longing for a union in a relationship can be challenging to resolve.

Well, a disagreement about marriage doesn’t have to end your relationship, but of course, it can be taken to court for a quick fix. Gertrude Ngoma from Ndola, Zambia, has taken the abovementioned measures after her fiancée failed to keep up with the promise of getting married to her. The 26-Year-old owns a child with 28-year-old Herbert Salaliki, having dated for eight years.

Gertrude has launched legal proceedings with a demand that Salaliki outlines his plans for the future. It can be presumed that her fear emerged after catching him texting another woman. ‘He has never been serious; that’s why I brought him to court. I deserve to know the way forward for our future.’ Gertrude reportedly told the court.

Defending himself, Salaliki claimed he plans on marrying Gertrude but can’t afford to, adding that they don’t even communicate that well as she doesn’t give him adequate attention. In response, the fed-up fiancé told the court she now feels Salaliki isn’t serious about their Courtship despite issuing a dowry payment. But again, he defended it, saying he’s not financially sufficient to afford a wedding.

Evelyn Nalwize, the Judge who presided over the case at Kabushi Local Court, advised Gertrude to launch legal proceedings for breach of a marriage contract, revealing that authorities could do less more to intervene. On the other hand, the magistrate ruled that the two should reconcile their differences out of the court premises.

Nevertheless, it’s traditional for Zambian Men to pay a LOBOLA, which means an appreciation fee to the family of their fiancée. It’s a sign that they will take proper care of their wife. Salaliki did make this payment, but the pair never lived together even though they share a child
