Ugandan Imam Is Suspended After Discovering His Wife Of Two Weeks Is Actually A Man
What the hell is going on here?
Sheikh Mohammed Mutumba, a 27-year-old imam, was suspended after police found out his wife was actually a man who was caught stealing from a neighbor.
The Ugandan was suspended from his duties at Kyampisi Masjid Noor mosque as police continue their investigation. He also admits that he had not spent a night with his wife of 2 weeks as she claimed to be menstruating.
The thief went with the name Swabullah Nabukeera and admitted to the local media in Kayunga that he was marrying the man for money. Police searched around the area as the neighbor had some of their clothes and a TV set stolen.
A female police officer searched her body and found out she was actually a man.
Mutumba was devastated and needed counseling from this incident. Friends and family members were also fooled as he was always wearing hijab and, according to a mosque worker, ‘had a sweet soft voice and walked like a woman’.
His real name is Richard Tumushabe.
The same worker had also heard Mutumba’s complaint who said his wife refused to undress when they sleep.
The head imam, Sheikh Isa Busuulwa, said that Mutumba’s duty as a cleric was suspended to “preserve the integrity of their faith”. The mosque had not been involved with the wedding either. Mutumba is currently staying with his relatives for counseling.
